Visiting Flying Dreams Winery with Friends

On Sunday, I hosted a social club meetup over at Davenport Cellars in the Woodinville warehouse district.

After eating lunch and enjoying their glass pours, a few of us headed out to explore the nearby tasting rooms. A few of us ended up at Flying Dreams Winery, since it’s been recommended to us so many times.

I was looking forward to meeting the famously friendly Leroy, but he wasn’t here today. However, we were treated to exceptional service by Don/Dan (Correct me in the comments below? Which name is it? Blast my poor memory!)

We all stopped to meet and cuddle with this incredibly darling mini boxer, Rocky. Rocky has his own Instagram following! We could barely keep our hands off him and glad he seemed to enjoy it and that his mom let us spend so much time with him. We interrupted her wine tasting, I’m afraid!

Here’s the current Flying Dreams tasting menu and glass pour offerings.

Woodinville Ciderworks is also based in this tasting room. I have several friends who enjoy cider but not wine, and I’m eager to take them here. I love that cider flights are available – how fun to taste and compare several different flavors! (I might have to skip the “Oaked Chipotle” however!)

My friends worked their way through the tasting menu and eagerly dug out their credit cards to purchase bottles of wine, exclaiming that they don’t usually spend so much on wine but Flying Dreams wine was worth the expense!

You can read more about Flying Dreams wines here.

The Cabernet Sauvignon is sourced from grapes grown at Stillwater Creek Vineyard. It’s a 2012 so has had plenty of time to mature. Only 150 cases were produced, so I’m surprised any bottles were still available for sale.

Sidekick is a blend that uses 48% Monastrell, a grape I’m not familiar with and will have to look up later! The blend also includes Garnacha, Syrah, Cab Franc and Cab Sauv grapes.

I am kicking myself for not trying to get a taste of their Tempranillo or at least buying a bottle to bring home and serve at my upcoming Tempranillo tasting.

I never can resist photographing the fermenters and shiny equipment in the warehouse district!

We straightened up our cozy table, packed up our purchases and headed back to Davenport Cellars to say goodbye to our friends.

My friend Phil was warned I might use his photo for this blog, so I hope he’s not mad. He did insist on posing under the umbrella out front, demonstrating that it’s quite possible to enjoy wine tasting even on a rainy day!

Flying Dreams Winery is located in the Woodinville Warehouse District at 19495 144th Ave NE, #A-140, Woodinville, WA 98072.

They’re currently open Saturdays and Sundays from 1pm to 5pm.
