A Field Trip to Meet Winemaker Kyle MacLachlan and Taste Pursued by Bear Wines

Last week Jen and I attended actor/winemaker Kyle MacLachlan’s wine tasting event at Metropolitan Market in Sammamish. We normally only cover and write about wine that you can taste in Woodinville tasting rooms, but this event sounded really fun and intriguing. We’ll call it a field trip!

We enlisted a passerby to take our (blurry!) photograph with the winemaker. We tasted his wine, the Pursued by Bear “Baby Bear” 2014 Syrah. (The 2013 “Baby Bear” got 91 points at Wine Enthusiast). The grapes were grown at the Phinny Hill and Lewis Estate vineyards. Only 384 cases of this wine were produced.

Jen and I both bought a bottle of the Syrah, which the winemaker kindly autographed for each of us. We found him very personable, and patient with the fans in line who gushed about his movies but didn’t ask any questions about the wine. As you can imagine, we pestered him to make his wine available in a Woodinville tasting room!

We enjoyed our little field trip, but then it was time to return to our homes and get back to writing about Woodinville tasting rooms!
