Stopping by L’Ecole No. 41 On Our Wine Road Trip to Walla Walla Washington

On our way back home to Woodinville after our Walla Walla wine field trip, Kaiti and I couldn’t resist stopping into L’Ecole No. 41 to shop for a couple bottles of Walla Walla wine to bring back home.

It’s easy to find L’Ecole No. 41 wines in Seattle-area grocery stores, such as QFC, Haggen and Fred Meyer, but I wanted to pay for Kaiti’s wine and I was curious to see the converted historic schoolhouse tasting room in person. Note that the winery grounds (outdoors) are dog-friendly but the indoor tasting room is not. (Fair enough!)

We didn’t have time for a tasting (and hadn’t called ahead for a reservation) and that was for the best I suppose. The tasting room employees were polite but quite distracted by moving a bunch of wine boxes around, perhaps prepping for the busy wine tasting weekend ahead.

Kaiti wandered for a couple minutes, exploring the tasting room and admiring the library of vintage books, while I perused the wine menu. I wanted her to try their Chenin Blanc (which is a bit harder to find in stores), their Grenache Rosé, and their Cabernet Sauvignon-dominant Perigee red blend. Since Kaiti is new to L’Ecole’s wines, I of course got her a bottle of the crowd-pleasing Frenchtown wine.

As you can see in the above pic, L’Ecole No. 41 winery is open every day of the week!

We also wanted to mention the new Heritage by L’Ecole Wine Bar at the Marcus Whitman Hotel. We popped in to say hi and check out that lovely tasting room space, but we sadly didn’t have time to taste there that particular afternoon. It’s on our list for our next visit to Walla Walla Valley Wine country!

What is your favorite wine by L’Ecole No. 41? We’d love to hear about it in the comments below.
