Magical Mermaid Desserts in a Mystical Tent at Our Wine Party

At our recent wine party at Zen Lakes, I set up one of my pop-up tents for shade and a cozy place to chill and eat dessert. I knew at some point people would need a respite from the sun, and didn’t want the frosting on our cakes and cupcakes to melt. Guests gathered around to chat and drink more wine.

Inside the tent, ladies relaxed, quite possibly ready for naptime on this wilting hot smoky day.

I’d forgotten, stupidly, to bring the other half of the pole for my peacock-blue Thai silk umbrella, so we couldn’t use it for shade. Still, it made a lovely decoration outside the tent.

Each guest was sent home with a bouquet of cut flowers as a thank you for attending the party.

Harriet chose this bouquet from the Crossroads Farmers Market.

We really enjoyed seeing our different friends enjoying getting acquainted over the course of the day. Here’s hoping some friendships developed!

We served only local wines from Woodinville tasting rooms – Savage Grace and Isenhower Cellars. We opened a Chardonnay, a Cabernet Sauvignon and a Cabernet Franc that all seemed to magically disappear quickly!

I set out a spread of bread and cheese, and my favorite peacock ice bucket for anyone needing to chill their wine or water bottles. I’d picked up Mermaid Cupcakes and Mermaid Cookies from the QFC in Novelty Hill – their colors were perfect for this dessert tent, and they tasted good too!

Carole and Harriet lounged on a picnic blanket while Mia and Kristen laughed in the tent.

Kristen and Karen were glad to move onto red wines after trying so many white wines earlier in the afternoon.

Look for other posts in our Zen Lakes wine party series!
